Swimming Data

What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters?

31%
9 out of 29

We are using our local Holiday park to complete our swimming, due to this there are limited dates that we are attending to have a swimming session, meaning that fewer swimming lessons take place across all year groups.

What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]?

45%
13 out of 29

Children will receive their final swimming lessons in year 6 and we are hoping for the number to increase in the year 24/25.

What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations?

80%

Most of the children have a strong understanding on what to do to self-rescue if needed as we have taught them through assemblies/PSHE about water safety as well as when they are in the water. Some children with additional needs may find this a little hard due to their understanding.

If your schools swimming data is below national expectation, you can choose to use the Primary PE and sport premium to provide additional top-up sessions for those pupils that did not meet National Curriculum requirements after the completion of core lessons. Have you done this?

No

Unfortunately, due to a lack of a swimming facility we are unable to use top-up sessions. This is due to the Haven holiday park being open during specific seasons and by the time we have ensured that all children across the KS2 have completed their swimming we do not have additional time for top-up sessions to take place.

Have you provided CPD to improve the knowledge and confidence of staff to be able to teach swimming and water safety?

Yes

Last academic year the school staff were provided a set of slides and a water safety website which provided them with a range of resources to use as well as some tips. In the academic year 2024/2025 staff are going to be directed to some CPD on our Thrive training platform which will develop their water safety knowledge. Currently our staff will not receive any formal swimming training as we have two outside swimming teachers who will support us with our teaching of swimming.
