KS2 Chromebooks Open Afternoon

A young boy is seen sat at his desk using a tablet computer in a classroom.

Dear Parents/Carers,

In our KS2 classes we have had a real investment in our Computing from the Leigh Academies Trust and this means that our children each have their own Chromebook in class. We have found that these have really complemented our learning across the whole curriculum as well as developing the children’s computing skills and knowledge of E-safety. It is also essential that our children learn these skills progressively so that they can transfer these skills to their time at secondary school in the future. Both of the local Trust secondaries offer one to one Chromebooks for the children to take home with them as well as to use in school.

Within the Trust we have been acknowledged for the fantastic practice in computing and our use of Chromebooks with our children here and have been showcasing this to other primaries across the Trust. The children build skills in being proficient in using book creator, Google applications, they can make their own websites and also use Adobe Creative by the time they leave our school. Our children also know how to use a search engine safely and we regularly refer to The National Online safety website with them so that they can keep themselves safe online.

We would like to invite KS2 parents in so that the children can talk about and share with you what they have been learning so far this term, they will be presenting their work to you using their Chromebooks. They will also show you how they navigate their work on Google classroom and they will look at The Online Safety website, where parents can also access resources and courses.

Please note that the children’s books will not be available to share as these will be available at another of our Open events for you to look through with your child.

Parents are invited in at 2.30pm on Monday 17th October, please be aware that due to class sizes, we will need to limit this to 2 adults per child attending. We ask that you please contact the office to confirm a space. Any prams or pushchairs will need to be left in the staffroom as you pass through the office due to lack of space in the classrooms.
Year 4 are currently having some new boards put up in their classroom so their Open event will be held in the school hall on this occasion.

We hope that you will be able to attend and that this will be an informative session to share more about the way in which we use Chromebooks to enhance our learning.

Kind Regards,

Mrs L Rimmer
Principal
